How to use impact sprinklers
During irrigation, consider crops that are not susceptible to foliage fungal infections as a result of wetness on their leaves. Drip irrigate for tomato, peppers, potato, chili, and other solanaceous crops. This is to avoid excess moisture on their leaves because they quickly succumb to leaf fungal infections as a result of wetness. Certain bean types, snow-peas, and mangetout too will easily get leaf fungal infections under sprinklers.
Common food crops such as; onion, cabbage, grass, and legume pastures. Others are; garlic, carrot, maize, lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, watermelon, orchards, forestry crops. Many others will be fine under this irrigation system
1. How do impact sprinklers work?
The sprinkler head is driven in a circular motion by the force of the outgoing water. This head is pivoted on a bearing on top of its threaded attachment nut

3. What pump size do I need for a sprinkler system?
Check the head of your sprinkler and the flow output rate, then select a pump that has 3 times the head/ lift, and the total flow rate of the sprinklers
4. Why do impact sprinklers get stuck?
Impact sprinklers not rotating is as a result of the entry of foreign particles in the water. This particles clog the sprinkler at the neck. Low water pressure such that there isn’t enough pressure created to move the head or too much pressure which jams the sprinkler

5. How long should you run an impact sprinkler?
Run it for 40 minutes at a time, 3 times a week during normal days. When it is hot and ry, double the watering time
6. How long do impact sprinklers last?
Different parts of your sprinkler system will be replaced in it’s life. Expect the average sprinkler system to last for over 15 years
7. Why do impact sprinklers stop working?
It could be as a result of blockage by debris in the water, or if the tension on the spring is lost. Unclog the system to allow for water passage into the sprinkler. For the spring, this will be replaced
8. Do impact sprinklers water evenly?
Yes and no. Yes if is is well adjusted to spray, and no if it is left to eject a water jet that leaves a ‘blind’ spot in the middle
9. Do impact sprinklers need to overlap?
Yes they do. To achieve a uniform water application, this must be done

This distance will not exceed 3.5M
Impact sprinkler adjustment
Adjustments are done for amount of water, distance and pattern of water spray. To adjust for the volume of water, increase or decrease the water flow from the source. For distance adjust the diffuser screw to increase or decrease it. Alternatively, adjust the deflector shield. The trip pin collar adjustment affects the watering pattern. Here, the grower chooses to spray from 10 degrees through 360 degrees

Because of their short irrigation diameter and low water discharge volume, impact sprinklers are designed for small farms and short crops. During installation, plastic PVC and HDPE, canvas delivery or metallic GI pipes drive water to the sprinkler from a source. The choice between a plastic one and a metallic sprinkler is on the farmer’s budget. The latter has a longer usable lifespan, is susceptible to damage but costs more. Plastic versions are easier to handle, carry and operate. They cost less but are easily damaged and so have a shorter usable lifespan
