Grekkon Limited’s tomato drip irrigation kit is for crops with medium-range spacing. These are; tomato, cabbage, and capsicum. A farmer will choose to have either raised beds or just plain lying land to install a tomato drip irrigation kit. Commercial tomato farming in Kenya is by irrigation. Tomato irrigation system requirement is an integral cost of tomato farming in Kenya.
To recoup this cost, the best time to plant tomato in Kenya is during the dry season, to harvest in the rainy season when prices are high. Our agronomy team trains farmers on tomato irrigation techniques countrywide
This is the number of days between 2 consecutive irrigations. It is a factor of the amount of irrigation water applied, versus the daily crop evapotranspiration. On a normal warm tropical day, we recommend once in 2-3 days to achieve the maximum fruit firmness. Just enough water means less leaf or vegetative growth, so that plants are forced to concentrate on fruit production
Roots will reach deeper in search of moisture, while at the same ime accessing minerals that contribute to a more complex flavour. Reducing irrigation just one week a week before harvesting improves taste. Water your crop well in the early satges, then reduce watering after fruit set and during ripening

These are prices for 2 drip rows per bed
Your beds will be 0.8M wide to allow for 2 rows of drip lines, and 30cm high for good drainage. Drainage is key to prevent root rot as a result of too much stagnant water
Place 2 rows of drip lines per bed. Each drip line row is 20cm apart and will be 20cm from the edge of the bed. Where no beds are made, each row is 30cm apart
In the dry season, irrigate 3 times weekly
Drip irrigation is the best for tomatoes because no water is in contact with the leaves. Too much moisture on tomato leaves is a precursor for fungal infections such as early and late blight. Avoid overhead irrigation through such systems as; rain gun sprinklers or impact sprinklers, and rain hose kits and pivots
Drip irrigation is the best system for tomato because it is water-efficient by providing water directly to the plants in measured quantities
An acre of land should retain 10,000litres of water t any time to meet the water demands of your tomato crop
Use 20cm or 30cm emitter drip tapes. Water early in the morning and avoid late evening irrigation
When the soil is wet enough, but without a runoff. Achieve this by running the system for 30 minutes every 2 to 3 days. As the crop grows bigger, increase this watering time to as long as an hour. Avoid daily irrigation to allow the soil to dry in between the 2 irrigation sessions
