What are natural solar dryers?
Natural solar dryers are devices that directly use the sun’s enery to dry food. At Grekkon Limited, we design and construct tailor-made solar drying units according to the product, location and drying volume per session. Our natural solar dryers are made using UV treated polythene paper, UV treated nets and steel bars galvanized with food grade aluminium or zinc.
How do they work?
They work by allowing in diffused heat from the top and the sides, which heats up the air coming in from the air inlet, and exits as hot air plus moisture in the air outlet. Our UV treated polythene cover has anti-drip properties such that water droplets do not form on it. This prevents dripping on the drying food which is a precursor for fungal development.
Our dryers are designed with shelves at different levels depending on the volume or weight of food crop a client intends to dry per session. As compared to open air drying, the use of oslar dryers offers many advantages
- Speed of drying. Food dries four to five times faster, so less space is utilised to dry more over the same period
- Quality. As the sun’s UV rays do not get into direct contact with the drying food, its, color, taste, scent and nutritional value is unaffected
- Cleanliness. The food is free from dust, sand or other external contaminants
- No pests. Insect, bird, or mammalian pests have no access to food in the dryer, hence no attack occurs.
