Irrigation pipes prices in Kenya by Grekkon Limited are for various pipe types, sizes, and thicknesses. In this article, we explore these factors, and also address most commonly asked questions on irrigation water pipes
Grekkon Limited’s irrigation pipes prices in Kenya are based on the following specifications
We supply and install high density polyethene pipes (HDPE), polyvinyl chloride pipes (PVC) for both surface, canvas delivery pipes and pre-perforated drip irrigation pipes and sub surface irrigation systems. The choice between these two pipes depends on the pipe placement and cost. HDPE pipes are for both surface and subsurface use. They can remain on the surface without being degreded the tropical sun’s high radiation because of the anti-UV treatment in them. PVC pipes on the other hand should be subsurface because they easily degrade under the sun, for the reason that they have no anti-UV treatment.
HDPE pipes are a popular choice for irrigation in Kenya, but are more expensive. Farmers who lease land over a defined period can lay them on the surface and dismatle them for use elsewhere at the expiry of the lease term. However with PVC, you cannot re-use them because they will be buried, and glued to each other

This is the internal diameter of the pipe. The larger it is, the more expensive the irrigation pipe is. Our HDPE and PVC irrigation pipe sizes are; 16mm, 25m, 32mm, 40mm, 50mm, 63mm, 75mm, 90mm, 110mm,125mm, 140mm, 160mm, 180mm, 200mm, 225mm, 250mm, 280mm, 315mm, 355mm, 400mm, 450mm, 500mm 560mm, and 630mm
An irrigation pipe’s internal diameter dtermines the volume of water it evacuates. A grower with 100 acres under irrigtaion will have larger pipes than one with an acre of similar crop. This is because more water is needed for the larger acreage
Pressure nominal (PN) is the universal measure of the pressure holding capacity of an irrigation pipe. The thicker the walls, the gretaer the PN rating, and the higher the pressure withstood by the pipe. A grower whose water flow is by gravity will have a lower PN rated water pipe than one with a high pressure water pump. High pressure in a thin walled pipe casues it to rapture or collapse. The choice of the water pipe’s pressure rating must be measured against the anticipated flow pressure. If for example your water pump has a head of 100M or 10 bars, then your water pipe will be from PN8 thickness
Grekkon Limited’s irrigation pipes for sale in Kenya PN ratings are; PN6, PN8, PN10, PN12.5, PN16, PN20, and PN25. For PVC pipes, our thickest pipes are PN 16

In Kenya, the 32mm or 1″ diameter PN6 thickness HDPE is the most commonly used irrigation pipe. This is because it irrigates small land parcels, which is what most farmers have
A 32mm/ 1″ HDPE PN6 pipe laid superficially on a farm after installation by Grekkon Limited in Kerarapon area, Nairobi county
This is a factor of the following:
In Kenya today, HDPE pipes are the most commonly used irrigation water pipes because they are easier to re-use than PVC pipes, and can be laid superficially on the ground. However, HDPE pipes are more expensive
They are robustly built to withstand high pressure flow in the pipes. In boreholes, PVC pipes are installed where mild steel casings will not work well
From 6″/ 15cm to 18″/ 45 cm in a farm where the former is in a location where it will not be in contact with a shovel blade, and the latter here ploughing is to be undertaken
PVC pipes in shallow trench during a drip irrigation system installation by Grekkon Limited in Endarasha area, Nyeri county. They will afterwards be buried
Step 1. Make the planing beds, or planting holes a,d trenches (if the pipes will be buried)
Step 2. Connect the main line to the water source
Step 3. Connect the filter (for drip irrigation systems)
Step 4. Lay the main pipe in the trench
Step 5. Create hydrants
Step 6. Conncet the pipe to the irrihation system (sprinkler, rain hose or drip)
It depends on the farm size, which determines the amount of water needed. The larger the farm, the greater the water demande, and the larger the main line is. A grower with an acre of land will have a 1-1/2″ / 50mm or a 1-1/4″ / 40mm main line. Another framer with 10 acres will have a 3″ or 90mm
The larger the pipe diameter, the lower the resistance to flow, and hence the water pressure decreases
